Marcelo Gallardo and Gonzalo Peralta set to go under the knife to repair sports hernias
Right when things were falling into place for D.C. United, another setback.

Star central midfielder Marcelo Gallardo and defender Gonzalo Peralta are both due to have surgery in the next day or two to repair sporst hernia injuries. As reported yesterday, the two flew to Munich to meet with specialist Ulrike Muschaweck, who has operated on several other United players in the past. Dr. Muschaweck assessed both players and determined they needed surgery.

D.C. United spokesman Doug Hicks told Goal.com on Wednesday that the players would be operated on either Friday or Saturday, and they would each miss two to three weeks of action.

Argentine playmaker Gallardo is United's first Designated Player, and has not played since going 90 minutes in a 4-1 win over Los Angeles on June 29. Peralta, also from Argentina, has similarly not played since the L.A. game.
